Being a Christian lawyer is possible, but not easy. Law professor Michael Schutt believes that although there are significant obstacles, Christians belong in the legal profession and should regard it as a sacred calling. The Christian God is, after all, a God concerned with justice, both divine and human. However, the pathway beginning with law school and leading to the daily demands of practice doesn't provide much guidance for pursuing law as a Christian calling. Schutt offers this book as a vital resource for reconceiving the theoretical foundations of law and gives practical guidance for maintaining integrity within a challenging profession. A hopeful and practical book for law students and those serving in the legal profession.

Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: Distinction, University of Warwick (School of Law), course: International Banking Regulation, language: English, abstract: The recent financial crisis of 2007-2009 (the crisis) has been dramatised as the worst crisis since the great de- pression in the 1930s. Prompt regulatory response was required in order to contain the spread of fear and stop the mistrust with the ultimate goal to restore the confidence into the financial institutions and markets as well as prevent the collapse of the real economy. Financial crises containment can be defined as the enhancement of ..". soundness and stability of the banking ..." which is essential to ..".ensure legal certainty and to restore confidence in financial markets" Regulators have a whole set of tools to respond to crises, using an existing regime and or implementing a special resolution regime. Latter has a broad span reaching from capital injections to expropriation. Undoubtedly, the measures raise legal questions regarding their raison d'etre and liability of those exercising the measures. Moreover, the measures have individual merits and demerits varying in respect of their costs and perspective of the market participants. The purpose of this essay is to analyse these responses. Therefore, different measures will be identified and evaluated in light of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council's common principles for action 5 and the Commission Communication of State Aid 6 which have been determined as representative guidelines for policy makers in drafting a response regime. It will be concluded that there is no clear cut answer to which are the most successful measures; nevertheless, there is empirical evidence of which are the most favoured responses by regulators. The measures will be in response to an acute crisis, ie the prevention and resolution of a crisis will not be treated in this essay. In addition, the responses will be limited to the Europe"

The concept of human security is a new approach to security that focuses on the individual human being and provides policy alternatives to the traditional state-centred view, which considers the state to be the only and ultimate referent of security. Formally introduced into the United Nations system in 1994 the concept’s intellectual roots draw from international humanitarian law, human rights and human development, and since its introduction human security has been progressively integrated into the international security discourse. Mainstreaming Human Security: Policies, Problems, Potential paints a comprehensive picture of the relevance of the concept of human security in practice in a time of changing security paradigms and a challenging international environment. This volume looks at the practical implications of mainstreaming human security. It focuses on the potential, problems and policies of human security in peace operations and crisis management operations of the United Nations and of the European Union. Topics addressed by the contributors include mainstreaming human rights and human security in peace and crisis management in general and the role of human security in the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, security sector reform, restorative responses to human rights violations by peacemakers, human security in Serbia and in African peace operations as well as proposals for human security training. The contributions to the book focus equally on mainstreaming human security in the UN and in the EU context. The global issues discussed and conclusions drawn are of relevance for the future of security addressed by peace and crisis management operations all over the world.

America is in the midst of a cultural and constitutional law crisis that began more than sixty years ago and was further exacerbated by the 2015 Supreme Court same-sex marriage decision. How did we become a culture that lacks objective morality and embraces secular ideas, hinging on the majority whim of nine justices? How do we get back to being a biblically moral, upright society and recognizing the U.S. Constitution as supreme law of the land? In The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution, Jenna Ellis makes a compelling case for the true roots of America’s Founding Documents in objective morality and how our system of government is founded upon the Christian worldview and God’s unchanging law, not a secular humanist worldview. She provides a unique perspective of the Founding Fathers as lawyers and how they understood the legitimate authority of biblical truth and appealed directly to God’s law for the foundation of America. Weaving together the legal history and underpinning worldview shifts in American culture, Ellis advocates how Christians must change the basic reasoning of our appeal and effectively engage our culture. Finally, she proposes the solution to reclaim objective, biblical morality in law that the Founders themselves provided for through Article V of the U.S. Constitution. This book is for every Christian who seeks to understand the times and our constitutional and cultural crisis.
